Today is Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Day

The late Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, the 8th President of the Philippines, is without a doubt Bohol’s most illustrious son.
R.A. 7448, in April of 1992, declared the 4th of November each year to be a special non-working holiday in the whole of Boholandia to commemorate the anniversary of the late Pres. Carlos P. Garcia. But with close inspection to the law, it didn’t in fact name November 4 as Carlos P. Garcia Day, only that it a special non-working holiday. It did however ‘designate’ Nov. 2-6 as Carlos P. Garcia Week.
But of course by all intents and purpose, today is Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Day.

Mabaw Reef is Tagbilaran’s last remaining underwater jewel

There is alot to be learned from local histories, something everyone must always consider and research, research, research.
Say, for instance, the case of the etymology of the Mabaw Reef. We talk about Mabaw Reef, the Tubattaha-like marine protected area (MPA) just off the shores of Taloto/ Ubujan, this city, because, the Rare Conservation, Inc. – backed Mabaw Reef Pride Campaign that aims to deepen awareness and local pride on the MPA, and particularly, increase active participation of the local folks in the conservation of the Mabaw Reef, was launched earlier today.
The Blossoming of the Baji

Late February, a call for visual and literary artists to partake in an all-Boholana multi-arts exhibition to celebrate women’s month and weave a collective story of the Boholana was echoed via intrapersonal and social media. An artwork by a Boholana, by blood or by heart – this was the only basic criterion for submissions. No specific theme. No preferred genre. No screening team. Just pure art. Pure Boholana.
Two weeks later, on the eve of the International Women’s Day, Baji: An All-Boholana Arts Exhibit opened its doors to the Bol-anon public – unveiling the diversity of the response and creating an exuberant narrative of the baji’ng Bol-anon in words, pictures and pixels – 40 artists and over 80 artworks.
